Formula 1 broadcasting and technical changes set for 2026
The 2026 Formula 1 season will feature significant technical and structural changes, including the debut of Cadillac as an 11th racing team and the transition of Sauber to Audi. Technical regulations will shift toward active aerodynamics and more sustainable fuels, replacing the current DRS system. While engines will remain V6 hybrids, the electrical component will increase as vehicles are designed to be smaller and lighter to facilitate closer racing.
Regarding broadcasting in Germany, RTL is expected to continue airing select races on free-to-air television in 2026. This follows a period where RTL had limited coverage after exiting the market in 2020. The broadcasting landscape may be influenced by RTL’s June 2025 announcement regarding a potential 150 million euro acquisition of Sky Deutschland, a move that has undergone review by the European Commission.
