Lando Norris faces VSC controversy and professional criticism after Spanish GP

Following the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid, Formula 1 driver Lando Norris has faced both strategic controversy and professional criticism. After securing pole position, Norris finished third after a Virtual Safety Car (VSC) deployment following a Lance Stroll incident. The timing of the VSC meant Norris had already passed the pit entry, preventing him from benefiting from the reduced pit stop time advantage seen by his rivals.

Former F1 champion Nico Rosberg has advocated for the continued use of the VSC over a full Safety Car but suggested rule changes to ensure fairness. Rosberg proposed either closing the pit lane during a VSC or drastically reducing pit lane speed limits to prevent drivers from gaining an unfair strategic advantage.

Separately, Norris drew criticism from former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner for his conduct in the post-race cooldown room. Norris was seen drinking from a Coca-Cola can despite F1's sponsorship ties to Pepsi, leading Steiner to label the behavior unprofessional. While many fans found the interaction amusing, Steiner argued that a professional should adhere to sponsorship boundaries.
