Formula 1: Gasly's reinstated Monaco podium fuels controversy, Hamilton celebrates emotional victory

Williams technical director James Vowles criticised the post‑race review that restored Pierre Gasly to a podium place at the Monaco Grand Prix. Vowles said teams knew they could be penalised for cutting the pit‑lane entry and that Alpine had lowered its speed limit to avoid penalties. He noted the original speed‑measurement error (77 cm) that led to the sanction being annulled and warned that McLaren and Red Bull are likely to appeal the decision, while Mercedes driver George Russell cannot. Vowles also recalled a similar incident in Singapore.

In a separate race, Lewis Hamilton described his win as an emotional breakthrough after 19 years, highlighting how he set aside “micro‑aggressions” and focused on the car’s reliability and strategy. He recounted the tense final laps, the decision to adopt a two‑stop plan, and the personal significance of lifting the trophy in Canada, calling it “one of the great moments of my life.”
