Formula 1 prepares for 2026 technical changes and broadcasting shifts

The Formula 1 landscape is set for significant changes in 2026, involving both technical regulations and broadcasting shifts. The 2026 season will feature a new technical era with increased electrical power in V6 hybrid engines, more sustainable fuels, and active aerodynamics replacing DRS. The grid will also expand with Cadillac debuting as the 11th team and Sauber transitioning to Audi.

Broadcasting arrangements vary by region. In Germany, RTL is expected to continue broadcasting select races on free-to-air television, following its return to the sport. This comes amid reports of RTL’s potential €150 million acquisition of Sky Deutschland, a move subject to European Commission review.

In France, Canal+ remains the primary broadcaster, though viewers must navigate different channels, such as Canal+ Sport for practice and qualifying sessions, while main races often air on the standard Canal+ channel. Meanwhile, French-speaking viewers in Belgium and Switzerland can access coverage via RTBF and RTS, though these services are subject to geographic blocking.
