Formula 1 teams face energy‑management challenge at Spa‑Francorchamps
Fernando Alonso warned that the energy‑recovery system will be largely unavailable in sector 2 of the Spa‑Francorchamps lap, leaving the 2026 cars with "less power than a Formula 2 car" if drivers deploy the electric boost too early. He explained that drivers must save some electric deployment for the final sector to remain competitive.
Red Bull technical director Laurent Mekies echoed the concern, saying the circuit’s long straights and limited braking zones will expose the same limitations the team encountered at Silverstone. He noted that while Red Bull fought for victory in Austria, they struggled in England and may face similar difficulties in Belgium, and the team will use the weekend to "take a small step forward" on such tracks before hoping for better results in the next race in Budapest.
