Verstappen stays at Red Bull through 2028, starts driver ‑ M

Overview

Red Bull manager Raymond Vermeulen reiterated on 14 July that Max Verstappen will honour his contract to the end of 2028 and that the performance‑exit clause will not be invoked. The clarification followed a media swirl sparked by a family meeting in Amsterdam and persistent transfer rumours linking the Dutch champion to McLaren or Mercedes.

Two days later, Verstappen himself said he had “nothing to say” about his future ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix, stressing his focus on the current season and on resolving the car’s energy‑management and rear‑wing problems that have hampered his results.

At the same event he announced that his newly created Verstappen Racing team had signed 15‑year‑old Belgian driver Dries van Langendonck, a McLaren junior and current British F4 leader. Verstappen described the partnership as his first foray into driver development, offering mentorship and simulator access.

He also warned that the Spa‑Francorchamps race would be difficult because of the car’s energy‑budget challenges, echoing earlier concerns raised after Silverstone.

Overall, Verstappen’s stay at Red Bull remains secure through 2028, but performance reliability and the team’s internal hierarchy continue to shape the outlook as the summer break approaches.
