Punta Cana Forum 2026 addresses Dominican Republic development and sargassum management

The inaugural Foro Punta Cana 2026, organized by GALA Media Group under the theme ‘El país que viene’, brought together public, political, and business leaders to discuss the future of the Dominican Republic. Key discussions focused on infrastructure, investment, legal security, energy, and new leadership models. During the event, participants addressed how public works can expand economic opportunities and the necessity of strengthening the electrical system.

Legislators at the forum expressed support for a new administrative structure that would elevate Verón to a municipality and establish Punta Cana as a municipal district to improve local governance. This proposal aims to provide better management of urban growth, transit, and services in the rapidly developing region.

Additionally, the region's management of sargassum has become an international model for sustainable macroalgae use. A technical delegation from Granada visited Punta Cana to study local containment, collection, and recycling systems. The goal is to replicate these circular economy solutions, which transform seaweed into fertilizers, biofuels, and construction materials, to protect coastal ecosystems and create green jobs.
