Langley RCMP cleared of charges in 2025 death investigation

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) has concluded that no charges will be laid against Langley RCMP members following an incident in October 2025 that resulted in a man's death.

According to the investigation, police responded to a disturbance at an apartment in the 19800-block of 54 Avenue. Upon arrival, officers encountered a man in medical distress, possibly experiencing “excited delirium.” While a witness reported seeing officers point conducted energy weapons at the man, the IIO found no evidence that such weapons were used.

Paramedics arrived and noted the man appeared to be entering cardiac arrest. The report detailed that officers restrained the man's limbs on the ground while waiting for emergency medical intervention. The man subsequently died after being transported to the hospital.
