Fortaleza and Dourados ramp up Aedes aegypti control with larvicide stations

Fortaleza's municipal health department is deploying a city‑wide network of 11,740 larvicide‑disseminating stations (EDLs) to curb Aedes aegypti, the mosquito that spreads dengue, Zika and chikungunya. The devices, developed with the Ministry of Health and Fiocruz, use a larvicide‑coated screen that contaminates mosquitoes when they rest, allowing the insect to carry the toxin to other breeding sites.

In Dourados, health agents inspected almost 6,000 residences over four days, locating 64 mosquito breeding spots and treating 304 potential sites with chemicals. The operation also included fumigation in 918 blocks and the installation of 1,008 additional larvicide stations supplied by the Ministry of Health, targeting neighborhoods such as Jardim Pelicano, Parque Alvorada and others.
