Fortaleza Cultural Exhibition Celebrates City’s 300th Anniversary

The CAIXA Cultural Fortaleza is hosting the exhibition “Fortaleza por Otacílio de Azevedo e Nirez” from 9 July to 25 October 2026. The free, all‑ages showcase presents 150 historic photographs selected from Nirez’s archive of more than 27,000 images, alongside original documents linked to the book Fortaleza Descalça by poet‑painter Otacílio de Azevedo, glass negatives, postcards and other iconographic material.

The show forms part of the city’s tricentennial celebrations and is sponsored by Caixa and the Federal Government. Educational activities and a lecture by researcher Miguel Ângelo de Azevedo (Nirez) are scheduled during the run, aimed at helping visitors rediscover Fortaleza’s urban evolution and cultural imagination.
