Fortaleza police investigate death of law student Isabelle Caracristi

Authorities in Ceará are investigating the death of 22-year-old law student Isabelle Caracristi, who fell from the 23rd floor of a condominium in Fortaleza on September 13. While forensic experts suggested a ‘voluntary fall,’ investigators are looking into whether her boyfriend, João Munhoz Neto, induced her to commit suicide.

Neto has been preventively detained to ensure the integrity of the criminal investigation. Evidence being analyzed includes mobile phone data and audio recordings sent by Caracristi to a relative shortly before her death, in which she described her partner’s behavior as abusive and referred to him as ‘crazy.’

The victim's family reported that they were only notified of the death after attempting to contact her and finding no response. The investigation remains ongoing as police examine the communications sent by the student on the night of the incident.
