Fortnite launches new 'Staffette' mode with spirit-powered gameplay and fresh map

Epic Games has released the latest Fortnite season, adding a brand‑new map called Costa Frantumata and a competitive mode named Staffette. In Staffette, players must locate and extract rare "spirit" creatures, which grant unique abilities such as shields, invisibility or damage boosts. Extracted spirits generate a currency called Spirit Dust that can be used to activate powers at the start of a match. The update also introduces portable extractors, new weapons like the John Wick pistol and the Dark Voyager rifle, and additional movement items.

A companion guide explains how players can collect all spirits: they appear in chests, with higher rarity in mythic or legendary loot, and must be extracted either via map‑based extraction stations or the portable extractor earned through mastery missions. Extracted spirits are added to the personal collection, while unextracted ones are lost on death. The guide lists each spirit’s effect, from water‑based shields to fire bursts, and details the new competitive rank "Unreal Legends."
