Four arrested in Italy over bomb attack on journalist Sigfrido Ranucci

On the night of 16 October 2025 a bomb exploded in front of journalist Sigfrido Ranucci’s home in Pomezia (Torvaianica), destroying two cars and damaging the property gate but causing no injuries. Carabinieri and the anti‑mafia directorate launched a complex investigation that combined public‑ and private‑camera footage, phone‑record analysis and forensic testing, which identified a Fiat 500 X rented in Campania and an explosive made from “gelatina da cava”. Four suspects – Antonio Passariello (Cicciano, Napoli province), Marika De Filippis (Avella), Saverio Mutone (Sperone/Avellino) and Pellegrino D’Avino (Avella) – were taken into custody in the early hours of 30 June 2026. Three were placed in pre‑trial detention and one was put under house arrest. They are charged with possession and use of an explosive device, detention, carrying an explosive in a public place, threat, damage and the aggravating factor of acting with mafia‑type methods. Investigators say the group acted on commission for unidentified “mandanti”, receiving several thousand euros and support such as funds, dedicated phone cards, legal aid and plans for a possible escape abroad. The journalist said, “We need to understand if there are other levels.” Police continue to search for the mandanti and any further accomplices.
