Four executives from Izmir municipal firm arrested for procurement collusion

Turkish authorities carried out a coordinated operation against Egeşehir Yapı Planlama Müşavirlik ve Teknoloji A.Ş., a subsidiary of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. The raid, led by the Izmir Public Prosecutor’s Office and the provincial gendarmerie, resulted in the detention and subsequent judicial arrest of four individuals: board chairman Süleyman Ekinci, former IZBETON general manager Hüseyin Sezer, and officials Muzaffer Özpolat and Salih Eren from Erensan İnşaat and Okçuoğlu İnşaat. The suspects faced charges of forming a criminal organization, membership in that organization, and colluding to manipulate public tenders. Investigators allege that the firm influenced both the bidding and the inspection phases of municipal housing projects in Eastern and Southeastern Turkey, creating a conflict‑of‑interest and unlawful monitoring mechanism.

The court ordered the four detainees to remain in custody pending further proceedings, underscoring heightened scrutiny of municipal procurement practices in Izmir.
