Four Factories Burn in Kulim, Malaysia as Firefighting Effort Enters Second Day

A fire broke out around 06:53 a.m. on a candle factory on Jalan Makmur 7 in Kulim, Kedah, and quickly spread to two textile factories and a box factory. The blaze involved four industrial units and was fueled by highly flammable materials such as wax, textiles and cardboard. No casualties were reported.

Deputy Senior Commissioner of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Service in Kedah, Awang Hidzel Awang Bujang, said strong winds and the combustible contents posed major challenges, but rapid response prevented the fire from reaching nearby areas. The operation, now in its second day, mobilised fire stations from Kulim, Kulim Hi‑Tech, Sungai Petani, and Penanti in Penang, supported by 19 volunteer fire teams, the Royal Malaysia Police, Tenaga Nasional Berhad and the Department of Environment. Heavy equipment continued to be used to ensure all hotspots were extinguished, with damage to the candle and box factories estimated at 90 % and the textile factories at about 60 %.
