Kulim, Malaysia fire incidents

In July 2026, Kulim, Kedah experienced two separate major fire incidents. On 21 July, a blaze erupted in the two‑storey boys' dormitory of Sekolah Menengah Agama Tarbiah Diniah, engulfing much of the upper floor. Firefighters quickly contained the fire, evacuating all 101 students without injury. The incident was fully cleared by early morning.

A week later, on 29 July, a fire broke out at a candle factory on Jalan Makmur 7 and rapidly spread to two textile factories and a box factory. Strong winds and combustible materials complicated suppression, extending firefighting efforts into a second day. While no casualties were reported, the factories suffered heavy damage, with the candle and box facilities about 90 % destroyed and the textile plants around 60 % damaged. Multiple fire stations, volunteer teams, police, and utility agencies were mobilised to fully extinguish the blaze.

Both events highlight the challenges faced by local emergency services in Kulim, involving swift evacuations in the first incident and prolonged multi‑agency coordination in the second.
