Four dead, two injured in armed attack on family gathering in Pénjamo
On Sunday night around 23:00, an armed group arrived in two vans at a house on Avenida Solidaridad in the Miguel Hidalgo colonia of Pénjamo, Guanajuato. The attackers ordered six men to kneel and opened fire, killing four victims – ages 15, 16, 24 and 26 – and seriously wounding two others, 19‑year‑old Brandon Alexis and 24‑year‑old Antonio. Security forces cordoned the area, collected cartridge cases and other ballistic evidence, and the State Specialized Homicide Unit opened an investigation.
Guanajuato Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo said the state maintains permanent operations in the municipality, stating, “Estamos atentos en la zona de Pénjamo y Valle de Santiago, es una zona que estamos trabajando de manera permanente.” She noted a pattern of attacks linked to criminal groups that often produce collateral victims and urged the Fiscalía to deliver results to avoid impunity. No arrests have been reported yet.
