Four migrant farm workers burned alive in Calabria, Italy

Four migrant farm workers – three Afghans and one Pakistani – were trapped inside a van that was set on fire at a petrol station in Amendolara, Calabria. Surveillance footage shows two Pakistani men pouring liquid into the vehicle, igniting it and blocking the doors. One victim escaped through the boot, while the others died in the blaze.

Italian prosecutors have arrested the two Pakistani suspects on charges of aggravated murder. The incident has spotlighted the exploitative "caporalato" system that recruits cheap migrant labor for Italian farms, prompting condemnation from the bishops' conference, the CGIL trade union and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who vowed to clamp down on gangmaster networks.
