Four migrant farm workers killed in arson attack in southern Italy

Police in Italy arrested two men suspected of setting a vehicle on fire at a gasoline station in Amendolara, near Cosenza in Calabria. The blaze killed four migrant agricultural workers—three Afghan nationals and one Pakistani—who were found carbonised inside the van. Surveillance footage showed the perpetrators pouring an accelerant on the rear of the parked vehicle and igniting it, while one attacker tried to keep the doors shut, preventing the victims from escaping. A fifth occupant managed to flee and was taken to hospital with burns.

The two arrested suspects are also Pakistani citizens. Prosecutors are investigating the motive and whether the attack was pre‑planned. The incident has sparked public outrage in Italy and renewed scrutiny of the safety and living conditions of migrant workers in the country's agricultural sector.
