Four migrant workers die in car fire in Amendolara, Calabria

Four migrant agricultural workers were burned alive inside a car in Amendolara, Calabria. The victims were foreign laborers whose deaths have been described as a horrific and inhuman crime.

The Italian farmers' union Coldiretti condemned the tragedy, urging stronger controls against irregular work and the illegal recruitment system known as “caporalato.” It recalled the 2016 law that criminalises illicit labour intermediation and called for its full enforcement to protect workers and honest producers.

The incident has reignited debate over migrant exploitation in southern Italy, highlighting broader challenges of integration, regional depopulation and the need for effective legal and social measures.
