Four Prison Escapees Recaptured After Rogério Coutinho Madruga Breakout in Brazil

A prison break at the Rogério Coutinho Madruga State Penitentiary in Alcaçuz, Brazil, occurred early Friday when inmates removed a concrete and aluminum toilet, dug a passage through the plumbing, and escaped. Thirteen prisoners attempted to flee; two were recaptured inside the facility and eleven got out.

Since the escape, four fugitives have been recaptured: Thiago da Silva Maia Braga, Julianderson Francisco Oliveira da Silva, Diogo da Luz Silva and Isaac Deodato Rodrigues. Seven escapees remain at large. The recaptures were carried out by the Polícia Penal in coordination with the Polícia Militar, Polícia Civil, municipal guard, and federal highway police, under the oversight of the Secretaria de Estado da Administração Penitenciária (Seap).
