Four students die as school roof collapses in Dera Ghazi Khan, Pakistan

On May 7, 2026, the roof of a private school classroom in Dera Ghazi Khan, Punjab province, collapsed during class hours. Rescue teams from Punjab Emergency Services Rescue 1122 and local authorities arrived within minutes and recovered four children’s bodies from the debris. About 14‑20 other people were injured, including students, a teacher and two labourers, and were taken to nearby hospitals.

Preliminary investigations suggest the roof gave way under the weight of construction material used in an ongoing extension of the school building. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed deep sorrow, ordered an inquiry and asked officials to submit a detailed report on the incident. The tragedy has raised concerns over safety standards at educational institutions in the region.
