Manipur: Two Naga civilians killed in Senapati attack

Two Naga civilians, identified as Rocky Mao and Kumar Poumai, were shot dead and two others were injured in an armed attack at Kalenjang village in Manipur’s Senapati district on Saturday. The attack occurred inside a village headman's house and follows a similar incident on September 25, where four Tangkhul Naga civilians were killed in Kamjong district near the India-Myanmar border.

The violence comes shortly after the United Naga Council (UNC) announced the suspension of its nearly four-month-old economic blockade of Manipur's national highways. The suspension followed a tripartite meeting in Guwahati involving the UNC, the Government of India, and the Manipur government.

The economic blockade had been in place since May, triggered by the kidnapping and subsequent killing of six Naga civilians. Local officials and political leaders, including Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, have condemned the recent killings, describing them as cowardly acts of violence against innocent civilians.
