FOVISSSTE forgives housing debts for 326,000 workers
The Housing Fund of the Institute for Social Security and Services for State Workers (FOVISSSTE) has resolved problematic housing credits for 326,000 beneficiaries through debt forgiveness, liquidations, and financial support schemes. ISSSTE Director General Martí Batres Guadarrama reported that an initial diagnosis revealed 400,000 of the 800,000 active credits faced administrative complications or exorbitant balances, many of which were deemed unpayable.
Batres Guadarrama stated that 74,000 individuals remain to be assisted through similar debt cancellation programs. During a recent event in Mexico City, 519 settlement certificates were delivered to beneficiaries, with some debt cancellations reaching up to 1.2 million pesos as part of a social justice program.
Additionally, FOVISSSTE plans to resume direct housing construction after a 34-year hiatus. The agency aims to build 200,000 residential properties across Mexico as part of its updated operational strategy.
