FPÖ approaches 40% in latest Austrian political polls

Recent polling data indicates a significant shift in the Austrian political landscape, with the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) approaching 40% support. According to a Lazarsfeld survey of 2,000 people, the FPÖ rose to 39%, narrowing the gap with the three current governing parties—the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ), and NEOS—which collectively hold 43% of the vote.

Individual party standings show the ÖVP at 21% and the SPÖ at 15%. The Greens have seen a slight increase to 12%, while the Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) reached 4%, placing it at the threshold of the electoral barrier. In direct preference polls for the role of Chancellor, FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl leads with 33% support, significantly ahead of Christian Stocker at 14% and Leonore Gewessler at 8%.

Commenting on recent right-wing electoral successes in Germany, Herbert Kickl described the momentum as an unstoppable patriotic shift. He suggested that the political dynamics seen in Germany serve as a signal for a similar movement within Austria.
