FPÖ gains ground in Austria as SPÖ support declines

Recent polling data indicates a significant shift in the Austrian political landscape, characterized by the rising popularity of the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) and a decline for the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ).

According to a Unique Research poll, the FPÖ has reached 38 percent support, while the SPÖ has fallen to 15 percent, marking its lowest result in the institute's measurements. The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) stands at 20 percent. Public sentiment reflects dissatisfaction, with 63 percent of respondents believing the country is moving in the wrong direction.

In Vienna, a separate W24 poll shows the SPÖ maintaining a lead at 35 percent, but the FPÖ is closing the gap at 26 percent. While the SPÖ remains the dominant force in the capital, the narrowing margin suggests increasing pressure from the right-wing opposition. In Vienna, mayoral candidate Michael Ludwig holds 44 percent support, ahead of FPÖ candidate Dominik Nep at 26 percent.
