FPÖ Linz demands federal ban on political Islam
The FPÖ Linz has introduced a resolution in the Linz City Council calling for the federal government to expedite a legal framework to ban political Islam. Security Councilor Dr. Michael Raml argued that the state must act decisively where religion is used to further extremist goals, stating that political Islam undermines democratic and constitutional order.
The demand follows reports regarding the continued recruitment and radicalization of youth by Islamist extremist groups. Raml cited a specific case from December 2025 involving a 17-year-old Austrian citizen arrested for allegedly planning attacks against executive employees, during which IS propaganda was seized. The resolution urges the government to move beyond mere announcements and provide authorities with the necessary legal tools to close loopholes and monitor extremist networks more effectively.
