France announces aid for small gas stations to lower fuel prices

The French government has introduced a new support measure for small, independent gas stations to facilitate faster reductions in fuel prices. Starting in November, the state will reimburse interest on certain loans to help these businesses manage cash flow challenges.

This initiative specifically targets small-volume stations in rural areas and overseas territories. Between 350 and 500 stations are expected to benefit. The aid is designed to address the liquidity gap faced by small operators who must lower retail prices before they have replenished their stock at the new, lower market rates.

This measure follows the announcement that 10 million barrels of diesel will be released from strategic reserves, with an estimated pump price reduction of 12 to 18 cents per liter over a three-month period beginning November 1, 2026.
