France announces fuel aid and support for rural gas stations
The French government has announced several measures to mitigate rising fuel costs. Minister of Economy Roland Lescure confirmed that the application window for a 100-euro fuel aid, specifically targeting high-mileage drivers, will open on October 27. This aid, which provides approximately 40 cents per liter over three months, features revised eligibility thresholds based on monthly net income to increase participation.
To ensure fuel price reductions reach all citizens, Minister of Commerce Serge Papin introduced a loan support program for small, independent rural gas stations. The state will cover interest on loans up to 5,000 euros per establishment, allowing these stations to replenish stocks more quickly. This initiative aims to facilitate a projected diesel price drop of 12 to 18 cents per liter starting November 1, a reduction made possible by the release of strategic reserves.
