France commemorates WWII Liberation anniversaries

Various regions in France are holding commemorations to mark the anniversary of the Liberation in September 1944.

In Gourdon, the association Historic organized a historical reenactment of the battles that took place in September 1944. The event featured period vehicles and coordinated actions between resistance fighters and soldiers to recreate the tension of the liberation of the Saône-et-Loire department. The day included a formal commemoration to honor the liberators, followed by a festive ball.

In Besançon, the city will hold ceremonies on September 8 to honor those who contributed to the city's liberation. The program includes a parade of vintage military vehicles organized with the Doubs Libération US 44 association, a concert featuring music from the era by the Orchestre d’Harmonie des Chaprais, and free access to the Citadelle. The Museum of Resistance and Deportation will also host guided tours focused on the themes of resistance, liberation, and reconstruction.
