France confirms 2027 presidential election schedule

In France, rumors have circulated on social media regarding the potential cancellation of the 2027 presidential election. However, legal analysis clarifies that under Article 6 of the French Constitution, President Emmanuel Macron cannot serve more than two consecutive terms and is therefore ineligible to extend his mandate beyond 2027.

Article 7 of the Constitution mandates that the election must be organized between 20 and 35 days before the expiration of the current President's powers. The government has already officially set the dates for the 2027 election: the first round is scheduled for April 18, 2027, and the second round for May 2, 2027. Constitutional law does not permit the President to cancel the election to remain in power, and even extraordinary powers under Article 16 do not grant the authority to suppress the democratic process.
