France confirms first imported Ebola case as DRC tightens travel restrictions
The French health ministry announced that a doctor who had returned from a humanitarian mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo tested positive for Ebola. The patient, whose identity is not disclosed, is in stable condition, has been isolated, and is the first imported case confirmed in France. The infection is the rare Bundibugyo strain, for which no vaccine or specific treatment exists.
In response, the DRC government issued a decree imposing a mandatory 21‑day quarantine on anyone who has been in an Ebola‑affected province before traveling abroad. The rule also requires a health declaration for all outbound passengers and prior authorization for health‑care workers returning from the affected zones. The outbreak in the DRC has reported more than 1,100 confirmed cases and around 291 deaths.
