France Confirms Participation in U-20 Women's World Cup in Poland Amid UEFA Boycott Threat

The French Football Federation has confirmed that France's under‑20 women's national team will compete in the World Cup scheduled to begin on 5 September in Poland. The tournament will feature six European sides – France, England, Italy, Portugal, Spain and host nation Poland.

UEFA is weighing a boycott of FIFA competitions after President Gianni Infantino proposed selling stakes in the events to private investors. Fifty‑five UEFA member associations voted for a boycott until the plan is withdrawn; Infantino later apologized and retracted the proposal, but UEFA says the threat of a boycott remains. England’s participation is still uncertain as the Football Association has not commented.

Players such as England defender Lucy Bronze have voiced support for a boycott, arguing it could protect the long‑term future of women’s football. A boycott could also jeopardise upcoming qualifiers for the 2027 Women’s World Cup and other tournaments.
