France cracks down on energy renovation and pellet stove scams

French authorities have taken action against organized fraud networks targeting consumers through energy renovation scams. In one instance, a 26-year-old man operating in the Cambrai region defrauded dozens of victims by offering pellet stoves and fuel at discounted prices. Victims, such as Didier Defer who lost 5,000 euros, were pressured into immediate bank transfers under the guise of rapid delivery before the perpetrator fled to southern France.

In a separate but related crackdown on energy renovation fraud, the Orléans Court of Appeal sentenced three directors to prison terms. These individuals operated a network using deceptive company names like Compagnons de France and Ekonovia, utilizing fake professional credentials and fictitious RGE certifications to build trust. The network employed aggressive door-to-door tactics, claiming government financial aid was blocked to pressure homeowners into fraudulent contracts. The investigation was driven by a surge of consumer complaints reported to the DGCCRF and the SignalConso platform.
