Energy renovation fraud investigations in France

French authorities have conducted several operations targeting organized fraud networks involving energy renovation subsidies and equipment.

In mid-August 2026, a suspect was arrested in Jussy, Aisne, for allegedly orchestrating a scam involving the MaPrimeRénov’ energy renovation subsidy program. Investigators believe the individual created fraudulent files to claim public funds for renovation work that was never performed, resulting in estimated losses between 500,000 and 1 million euros. Law enforcement seized significant funds and placed several assets under sequestration.

By late August, further enforcement actions were reported. In the Cambrai region, a 26-year-old man was identified for defrauding victims through deceptive offers for pellet stoves and fuel. Additionally, the Orléans Court of Appeal sentenced three directors to prison for operating a network that used fake professional credentials and fictitious certifications to pressure homeowners into fraudulent contracts. These networks often used aggressive door-to-door tactics and claimed government aid was blocked to secure payments.
