France debates social‑media platform policies as left‑wing show returns to X and Senate proposes anti‑disinformation me‑

A French left‑wing weekly video programme, Mon œil, launched on the Bluesky platform in late 2024 but suffered from low viewership. Its hosts, including journalist Catherine Tricot and commentator Pablo Pillaud‑Vivien, announced on 16 June 2026 that they will return to the social‑media site X (formerly Twitter), noting that journalists still rely on X for news despite earlier boycott campaigns.

Separately, a trans‑partisan Senate commission presented a six‑month investigation on “gray zones of information” on 9 July 2026. The 160‑page report issued 56 recommendations aimed at increasing platform transparency, regulating algorithms and influencers, and creating an independent disinformation observatory. Senators from UDI, LR and PS highlighted risks of digital manipulation, including AI‑driven threats, ahead of the upcoming presidential election. The report drew sharp criticism from far‑right politicians, who framed it as an infringement on free speech.
