France Design Week focuses on ecological and social design challenges

The France Design Week festival is returning with a theme focused on design as a tool to address contemporary ecological, social, and economic challenges. The event features various regional iterations across France, including exhibitions in Tours and Normandy.

In Tours, the 7th edition of the local branch is hosted at Hôtel Goüin. Highlights include the presentation of the Bux lamp by Roger Pradier, a modern, eco-responsible version of a classic 20th-century flashlight. Designed by Stéphane Joyeux, the updated model utilizes recycled materials for its components and battery.

In Normandy, the festival includes events in Juvigny-les-Vallées, Granville, and Mont-Saint-Michel. Programming includes a conference on how ancestral textile techniques like weaving and embroidery can inspire modern design, as well as upcycling workshops in Granville where old boat sails are transformed into everyday objects. Additionally, monumental tapestries will be showcased at the Mont-Saint-Michel abbey.
