France discharges first Ebola patient, doctor recovered from DRC

France confirmed that its first Ebola case has recovered and been discharged. The patient was a humanitarian doctor from the Democratic Republic of Congo who arrived in Paris on 23 June. He was placed in isolation after arrival, underwent two negative PCR tests and was deemed clinically recovered.

French Health Minister Stéphanie Rist announced the discharge, praising the country’s “surveillance, isolation and response” system. The doctor works for the NGO Alima, and the DRC continues to face a large Ebola outbreak.

The case underscores France’s preparedness for emerging infectious diseases and illustrates cooperation between health authorities and humanitarian organisations.
