France ends Palantir contract for DGSI, switches to French firm ChapsVision

On 16 June 2026 French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced that the Direction générale de la sécurité intérieure (DGSI) will terminate its data‑analytics contract with U.S. company Palantir Technologies. The contract, renewed in December 2025 for three years, is being replaced by the French AI firm ChapsVision, which will provide its ArgonOS platform for processing the agency’s sensitive data. The move is framed as a step toward digital sovereignty, citing the risk of “strategic dependencies” on U.S. technology and recent U.S. restrictions on foreign access to Anthropic’s Fable AI model.

Alongside the DGSI decision, the French government unveiled an additional €655 million investment in domestic artificial‑intelligence development under the France 2030 programme, including deployment of Mistral AI assistants to one million civil‑servants. Germany’s Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) had already selected ChapsVision earlier in May, indicating a broader European shift away from American vendors. Palantir’s shares rose after the announcement, but the loss marks a notable setback for its European government business.

The policy change highlights growing concerns among European states about reliance on foreign digital infrastructure and signals a coordinated effort to build sovereign AI capabilities.
