France expands electric vehicle charging infrastructure

New electric vehicle charging infrastructure is expanding in France, focusing on both speed and user experience. Ultra-fast 600 kW chargers have been installed on the A7 motorway, capable of providing 300 km of range in just eight minutes. This development aims to bring electric vehicle refueling times closer to those of traditional petrol stations.

To address urban congestion and parking challenges, a new system has been introduced that combines parking reservations with battery charging. This automated process uses a robot to reserve a spot and transmit the location to the driver's mobile phone. Once charging is complete, the user receives an automated notification to move the vehicle.

Additionally, Renault is expanding its Renault Plug Inn network, formerly known as Mobilize. The company aims to reach 93 stations in France by the end of 2026, primarily located at dealerships near major transit routes. These stations, which are open to all electric vehicle brands, feature chargers up to 320 kW and include climate-controlled rest areas to improve the driver experience.
