France expands local public service network and mapping tools

The France Services network, a system of local administrative hubs, is expanding significantly across France. As of August 2025, there are 2,804 active locations, with projections to reach approximately 2,925 by the end of 2027. The network provides assistance with taxes, pensions, health insurance, employment, and digital procedures. Usage has grown from 1.17 million assisted procedures in 2020 to 9 million in 2023, with monthly user numbers reaching approximately 800,000.

To support this growth, the 2026 budget proposal allocates 68 million euros to the network, an increase of 2.5 million euros from the previous year. An additional 13.45 million euros is designated for the 1,311 locations situated in fragile rural revitalization zones. Currently, 63% of these service points are located in rural areas, and 18% are in priority urban districts.

To improve service distribution, the Direction interministérielle de la transformation publique (DITP) is rolling out a national mapping tool. This tool, developed in partnership with the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière (IGN), will allow local authorities and state services to identify underserved areas by aggregating data from post offices, administrative antennas, and health professionals. Following pilot tests in the Nord, Indre, and Hautes-Alpes departments, the mapping tool is expected to be fully deployed nationwide by the end of summer 2026.
