France Extends €100 Fuel Aid Deadline for High‑Mileage Drivers to End August

The French government has postponed the deadline for the €100 fuel‑aid scheme for high‑mileage commuters from the end of July to the end of August. The measure, announced by Energy Minister Maud Bregeon, aims to offset the rise in fuel prices that have again surpassed €2 per litre amid geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

The aid, targeted at low‑income households that rely on their car for work, has already been claimed by more than 1.2 million people, with around 970 000 payments already dispatched. Officials say up to two million additional drivers could still qualify. Economy Minister Roland Lescure and Commerce Minister Serge Papin will meet fuel distributors at the Ministry of Economy next week. TotalEnergies also announced the reinstatement of a price‑cap at its French stations.

The extension seeks to give eligible motorists more time to apply as fuel costs continue to climb, a concern highlighted by Bregeon on national television.
