France extends water usage restrictions through November 30
Due to ongoing tensions regarding water resources and drinking water production, prefectural orders have extended water usage restrictions in France until at least November 30, 2026.
Key prohibitions include the watering of lawns and green spaces, the emptying or filling of swimming pools, and the cleaning of vehicles and building facades, with specific exceptions for agricultural and technical machinery. Watering vegetable gardens is prohibited between 8:00 and 20:00. A temporary derogation allows for the watering of plants on funerary monuments using rainwater or other authorized resources until November 2, 2026.
In the Mirabel and Blacons regions, the Gervanne-to-Sye canal will be closed from November 7 to November 30, 2026, to facilitate maintenance. Local residents have organized a cooperative maintenance initiative for November 21 to preserve the canal, which remained functional despite recent exceptional heat and drought phenomena in the valley. Local authorities continue to meet with competent agencies to balance ecological continuity requirements with the need to maintain water access for residents and legal beneficiaries.
