France faces fuel shortages at 11% of gas stations

Fuel shortages are affecting approximately 11 percent of gas stations across France, according to government data. This means roughly 1,100 out of 9,900 monitored stations are experiencing shortages of diesel or gasoline.

The situation varies significantly by region. The Grand Est region, including Alsace, Lorraine, and Champagne-Ardenne, is the most heavily impacted with an 18 percent shortage rate. Other affected areas include Pays de la Loire at 16 percent and the Île-de-France region around Paris at 14 percent. In contrast, the Provence and Côte d'Azur regions report a 5 percent shortage rate, while Corsica remains unaffected.

Economic Minister Roland Lescure has attributed these supply issues to the price caps implemented at approximately 3,300 TotalEnergies stations in mainland France. While the national shortage rate has decreased from 14 percent on October 4 to 11 percent as of October 6, travelers are advised to monitor their fuel levels closely.
