France faces multiple fire incidents in Les Sables‑d’Olonne and Gard
A balcony fire broke out on the fourth‑floor staff housing of the Savary‑de‑Mauléon lycée in Les Sables‑d’Olonne on 3 July. Eighteen firefighters used a high‑reach water lance to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to the rest of the building. The apartment was saved from total loss, but the interior remains uninhabitable; the resident couple were placed in temporary accommodation by the school administration.
Separately, a vegetation and industrial fire ignited near the Trajectoire business zone in Milhaud, Gard, on 2 June. The blaze burned roughly 130 hectares, with about 60 hectares fully consumed, and threatened the waste‑storage facilities of the company Benne 30. A total of 120 firefighters, 30 fire engines, a command post, a Canadair water‑bomber and an aerial water‑dropping helicopter were deployed. No injuries were reported, though ten firefighters experienced smoke irritation.
Both incidents required extensive emergency response from French fire services and prompted temporary relocations or safety advisories for nearby residents and businesses.
