France faces sleep deprivation and lack of personal time

Recent data from the Institut National du Sommeil et de la Vigilance (INSV) reveals a paradox in the French population: while physical activity is at a historic high, sleep quality is declining. Approximately 61% of people aged 15 and older report regular exercise, a significant increase from 54% in 2018. However, the average weekday sleep duration has dropped to 6 hours and 50 minutes, down 14 minutes from the previous year.

One in four people report sleeping less than 6 hours per night, and 49% of respondents feel fatigued upon waking. Among those under 35, fatigue levels rise to 62%. Cited causes for sleep debt include late bedtimes, prolonged screen exposure, and professional workloads.

Parallel findings from an OpinionWay study for Yves Rocher highlight a lack of personal time, particularly among women. Approximately 43% of women reported having no time for themselves shortly after the September return to work and school. Furthermore, 90% of women surveyed stated that their rare personal moments are regularly interrupted, reflecting a blurring of boundaries between professional, family, and personal life.
