France forest fires blaze through 900 hectares in Herault and Aude

Around 900 hectares of forest burned in a wildfire that started in the Herault department and spread to the neighboring Aude region in southern France. Approximately 800 firefighters and 150 vehicles were deployed, and strong winds of up to 60 km/h hampered the effort. Authorities opened temporary shelters for affected residents, closed several roads, and evacuated about 600 people from nearby Fare‑les‑Oliviers. In the towns of Lançon‑Provence and Rognac, separate fires consumed roughly 275 hectares and 40 hectares respectively; ten firefighters suffered smoke inhalation and two firefighting aircraft were sent to assist. By the latest reports, the fire is under control and no further spread is expected.
