France grapples with severe water shortages across several regions

Communes in the Haute-Marne department, including Prez‑sous‑Lafauche and Foulain, report ongoing water supply tension that may persist until the end of August. Officials say the situation has stabilised but remains under close monitoring, and the towns rely on support from the La Manoise water syndicate to avoid ruptures in supply.

In the western department of Loire‑Atlantique, the prefecture has declared a red‑level crisis for groundwater and a heightened alert for surface waters. More than a quarter of the department’s rivers are dry, and the prefecture has imposed extensive restrictions on non‑essential water use, including bans on lawn watering, beach showers, private pool filling, and limits on industrial and agricultural consumption.
