France implements professional training and employment reforms
France is facing significant shifts in professional training and employment regulations. The Afpa (National Agency for Adult Training) has announced a restructuring plan that includes the potential closure of up to 30 of its 142 centers and the elimination of 867 jobs. This move is driven by high real estate costs and financial difficulties affecting 72 of its sites.
These changes coincide with a tightening 2027 labor budget, which anticipates a reduction of approximately 2.5 billion euros in employment credits. Potential measures include increasing the employee contribution for the Personal Training Account (CPF) from 150 to 350 euros.
Additionally, a reform regarding professional career interviews has taken effect. The mandatory frequency of these meetings has been reduced: initial interviews occur within the first year of employment, followed by meetings every four years instead of every two. Comprehensive career reviews will now take place every eight years rather than every six. The reform aims to move away from administrative formalities toward more meaningful discussions regarding skill development and internal mobility.
