France imposes severe forest fire restrictions in Isère and Bas-Rhin

The prefecture of Isère has raised the fire‑danger level to "very severe" (red) for the Vallée du Rhône and North Isère areas, including Vernioz, effective from 8 July 2026. Under this level, access to sensitive natural spaces is prohibited, work that could spark fires (such as using chainsaws or welding equipment) is banned, motor‑vehicle travel on unpaved paths is forbidden, and fireworks are not allowed.

In the Bas‑Rhin department, the entire territory has been classified as "elevated‑severe" for forest and vegetation fires as of 7 July 2026 at 06:00. The decree bans cooking fires, fireworks, and campfires within 200 m of woods, except for private homes and their outbuildings. Residents are urged to report any fire immediately to emergency services (18, 112 or 114 for the hearing‑impaired). Both prefects note that about nine out of ten fires are of human origin and stress the importance of respecting the restrictions to protect people, property, and natural areas.
